Happy Holidays!
During the holiday season, it’s especially important that we are all aware of what’s going on around our community. Recently there has been a run of car vandalisms and car break-ins. Auto beak-ins increase during the holidays, so take precautions, do not leave any valuables in your car and always lock your car doors. If you are planning to be away for the holidays call Neighborhood Watch to request a free “Holiday Watch.”
Fortunately, we have an extremely accomplished and tireless Neighborhood Watch director in Ms. Alma Ditty. She has been responsible for reductions in crime and vandalism in our area and is a tremendous partner to the SDPD and our Association. But as good as Alma is, she can’t do it alone!
Call 911 for emergencies and call Alma if you should become aware of any suspicious or illegal activities. The Neighborhood Watch 24 hour hot line is (858) 565-4231.
Recycle Christmas Trees
You cannot dispose of your Christmas tree in trash bins. The city offers several sites to recycle Christmas trees.
Painting
The CG board is working to obtain a painting contract. We will keep you informed and let you know when we have a starting date but please note that painting will not begin until early in the new year.
Board members visited individual units during the chimney sweep weekend to check for damage to stucco, door frames and foundations and to note repairs to be done before painting. Thank you for your cooperation and for welcoming us into your homes. Pre-painting preparation checklists were handed out to residents.
Put up a birdhouse for homeless birds
New concrete shingles have been installed here at Cascade Gardens and look great but the little birds that had been nesting under the old cedar shingles have been displaced. If you want to make the little homeless birdies happy put up a birdhouse. CG will install a small bird condo up near the pool for the homeless birds too.
Thanks to Cole and Kyra, for contributing artwork to
this newsletter.
Recycling
Please recycle! Dumpster divers are finding lots of recyclable treasures in the CG dumpsters. Help keep the divers out by making sure that your recyclables aren’t going into the dumpster and landfills. Help neighborhood Watch and the planet by placing your recyclable cans and bottles out on the curb on Saturday morning by 7:30am or call Alma at (858) 565-4231 to schedule a pick up. Neighborhood watch will not benefit from items placed in the city recycling bin. Put paper, cardboard, plastic and glass into the designated city recycling bin near the A building.
Water Use Restrictions
Effective June 1, 2009, San Diego declared a Level 2 Drought Alert. Level 2 includes many mandatory water restrictions. Apartments, Condos and Businesses can water: Monday, Wednesday & Friday. Cascade Gardens is compliant with the city’s irrigation plan. You may have noticed that some of the plants in our complex are dying from the lack of water and will need to be replaced with drought tolerant species.
Car Washing
Vehicle washing is permitted only in the hours between 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. with a hand-held container or a hand-held hose with a positive shut-off nozzle for quick rinses.
Customers cannot use a running hose to wash down sidewalks, driveways, parking areas, tennis courts, patios or other paved areas, except to alleviate immediate safety or sanitation hazards, unless that hose is connected to a water efficient device such as a commercial water broom.
These restrictions are permanent and are now in place year-round.
San Diego residents are encouraged to report water waste by calling the Water Hotline at (619) 515-3500. http://www.sandiego.gov/water/conservation/drought/droughtlevels2.shtml
Volunteers
Board Meetings are held the second Wed of Each Month at 6:30pm but see the bulletin board for details and changes. Volunteers are encouraged to help with special projects and serve on committees.
